According to Agencia Noticias Argentina, the statuette, which was presented for the first time at the ceremony, was received by his daughters, Dalma and Gianinna, who delivered emotional words for their late father upon taking the stage. IP “Pelusa” had previously won the Olimpia de Oro in 1979 and 1986, the year in which he helped the Argentine national team win its second World Cup title, and was defined as one of the main figures in promoting football. In addition to the aforementioned awards, Diego received the Olimpia de Plata in 1999 as the best Argentine athlete of the 20th century.
